Diego Pinera wurde 1981 in Montevideo, Uruguay geboren. Er studierte Schlagzeug am Berklee College of Music (USA), an der University of Music in Havanna (Cuba) und an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig. 2017 wurde er mit dem ECHO Jazz als bester Schlagzeuger national ausgezeichnet mit seinem album "My Picture"feat.Mark Turner und Ben Street. Pineras Begegnungen mit der Musik Lateinamerikas und der Bandbreite des Jazz dienen ihm als künstlerischer Filter für seine Musik. Sein charakterstarker Personalstil ist geprägt durch ein avanciert rhythmisches Spielkonzept, ein Jazz-Sound mit Latin-Touch sowie dem Freiheitdrang der Improvisation. Musikalische Komplexität sowie Virtuosität bleiben bei Pinera aber stets subtil, eine besondere Frische und Leichtigkeit durchströmt sein künstlerisches Schaffen.
