Timpani/Percussion Instruments
The training of the timpani/percussion classes ranges between the traditional and the modern, Dresden’s top orchestras and soloistic aspiration. Musicians from the Sächsischen Staatskapelle Dresden or the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra instruct alongside international soloists and renowned pedagogues.

In addition to regular core subject lessons, the focus of the course includes work in the Hochschulsinfonieorchester as well as chamber music and new music. This guarantees a broad and individual training.

Gain Concert Experience
Ensemble projects with other musicians at the university, work in the Hochschulsinfonieorchester or close collaboration with other instrumental classes provide important practical experience. The associated stage practice guarantees regular panel concerts and performance opportunities.

Flexible Training

Masterclasses Workshops & Projects

Regular master classes with well-known percussionist of different stylistic orientations round off the training program. Most recent guests include, among others, Jan Schlichte (Berlin Philharmonic), Holger Brust (Bamberg Symphony), Henrik Schmidt (German Symphony Orchestra), Benjamin Forster (Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich), Franz Schindlbeck (Berlin Philharmonic), Benjamin Schmidinger (Vienna Philharmonic).

The Kurt Masur Academy offers particularly talented musicians the opportunity to prepare themselves within the Dresden Philharmonic for their future profession and to get to know the special playing culture and the sound ideal of the traditional top orchestra. At the same time, they are studying in the four-semester Master's programme "Music with a focus on orchestral practice" at the College of Music Carl Maria von Weber Dresden.
New MusicMaster's Degree in New Music Bern-Dresden-Salzburg
It is also possible to study contemporary music at the Dresden University of Music. The Master's program in New Music is offered in cooperation with the Bern University of the Arts and the Mozarteum Salzburg, with the option of spending one year of study in each of these cities.
