Doctorate

The Dresden College of Music offers the possibility of a doctorate in the disciplines of historical and systematic musicology, music theory and music pedagogy. 


Admission Requirements

The prerequisite is a university degree in one of the doctoral subjects, either a diploma, master's, or Magister degree, or a state examination for teaching music, with a grade of at least "good" overall.

Holders of a bachelor's degree or a non-academic master's degree may also be admitted under certain conditions, as may graduates of other academic university subjects.

Furthermore, a professor in the fields of musicology, music theory, or music education must agree to supervise the dissertation. The supervisor must hold a habilitation or demonstrate equivalent qualifications.

Admission is granted by the doctoral committee.

Doctoral Committe

Dates

The doctoral committee meets regularly twice per semester. Applications for admission, initiation of the doctoral procedure, and other inquiries must be submitted to the doctoral committee at least 7 days before the respective meeting dates.
