E-Guitar Jazz/Rock/Pop
The guitar studies at the Dresden College of Music are characterised by stylistic openness and a practice-oriented training strategy. The training offers electric guitar and acoustic guitar are strongly interconnected. This created a comprehensive artistic and pedagogical training for an all-round musician on this instrument. This interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching is considered one of the most successful of all today.
Training broad, practical, individual

In the basic study period, fundamental instrumental and pedagogical skills are worked out or further developed. Different playing techniques, sight-reading, comping, transcriptions, sense of style and repertoire play are the focus of the activity. Jazz "serves" as a stylistic fund.
In the main course of study, students increasingly have the opportunity to devote themselves to their artistic preferences and to establish their own musical projects for a smooth transition into professional life as musicians (supervised by the teachers). In addition, his/her pedagogical skills are applied in a practical manner.
The aim of the studies is to produce a comprehensively trained creative musician who meets the general requirements of the music business. The existing potential is to be optimally exploited, and own talents are to be supported and promoted.

Every electric guitar student receives 1.5 hours of guitar lessons per week. In the first 4 semesters the basics will be taught by prof. Ralf Beutler and prof. Stephan Bormann - in addition half an hour of lessons with another teacher on the acoustic guitar.
Starting in the 5th semester, classes will be supplemented by Martin Miller. In addition, from the third academic year onwards, it is possible to tailor the lessons more individually to the respective student and to receive up to 0.75 hours of lessons per week with professors from other instrument groups.
The main focus of prof. Ralf Beutler's lessons is the joint development of an individual strategy for the development of playing technique, rhythmics/ stylistics, timing, the accompanying work on the guitar in connection with sight-reading, as well as the development of comprehensive repertoire knowledge. Special attention is paid to the application of special practice concepts and methods (e.g. mental practice/audiation).
Prof. Stephan Bormann's lessons focus on solo transcription, composition and the creation of solo arrangements, sound design and the development of improvisation skills.

Various examinations, auditions and concerts form important fixed points during the course of study, which are also referred to thematically in the main subject lesson. The training spectrum is rounded off by offers such as performance lessons, band summits, different thematic ensembles, cross-stylistic musical projects, work in the recording studio and insights into the areas of booking/promotion/GEMA.
