Piano

Jazz/Rock/Pop

Under the motto "...tracing the sound," the study programme acts as an interaction of imparting the basic fundamentals to mastering Jazz/Rock/Pop piano as well as the support and promotion of the individuality of the students.

Training

Broadly Diversified, Practically Oriented, Individually

The focus of the study programme is the development of an artistic personality with all its creative potential, who confidently meets the requirements of the current music business. The basis for this is the comprehensive technical and musical training and promotion of creativity and independence.

Jazz Specific Basic Training

The focus of the training is on learning II-IV-I - connections, turnarounds, blues and rhythm changes in all keys, different standards in all keys, own standard arrangements and self-created transcriptions of style-forming pianists. Combinations of jazz and Latin piano playing, teaching the playing technique of stylish electric pianos of jazz/rock/pop history (Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer E-Piano, Hohner Clavinet), developing important solo piano techniques (e.g. Stride-Piano, Walking Bass) and accompanying soloists and band playing are also among the main emphases.

European Piano Music

A further module of the comprehensive training is the teaching of various playing techniques and variations, e.g. piano exercises by Hanon and Etudes by Cramer-Bülow, piano music from the Baroque to the 20th century (e.g. Bach, Handel to Schulhoff, Kabalewski, Ginastera) and sight-reading. This is accompanied by getting to know various stylistic and expressive means of European piano music and sensitization to its specific sound culture.

Advancement of Individuality

This module brings together what you have previously learned. Special attention is paid to promoting the individual characteristics of each student: Working together on their own compositions, working with advanced improvisation techniques (e.g. polyphonic chorus playing), playing in a piano trio. The aim of the studies is to develop into a professional musician with very good craftsmanship, a broad stylistic spectrum and own musical signature.
