Promoting Young Musical Talent

The promotion of young musicians has been firmly anchored at the HfM for many decades, with facilities such as the young talent development class and the State High School for Music. The HfM Dresden has now significantly expanded its activities, with many initiatives in the region and beyond, through cooperation with the relevant institutions and offers for children and young people of all ages, from beginners to professionals.

The Summer Academy Youth was launched in 2023 with the aim of giving young aspiring musicians an insight into university life. The Saxon State High School for Music (Sächsisches Landesgymnasium für Musik) was founded as the HfM's youth academy and will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2025. The Network for Promoting Young Musical Talent (Netzwerk Musikalische Nachwuchsförderung) in Saxony brings everyone involved in musical education into conversation with each other and since 2018 organizes the Meisterkurse Jugend musiziert.

There are course-specific offers of advice for applicants, for example the informational audition for the singing major or the auditions for the teaching major. In the Nachwuchsförderklasse, musically gifted children from the age of two receive lessons under the motto “With music and movement to music”.

In Saxony

The HfM Dresden cooperates with music schools in the region and has established the Making Music in the Country concert series, in which students from the music schools make music together. The Music Mobile from The Young ClassX enables children and young people from Dresden and the surrounding area to have their first contact with music in one of the numerous cultural institutions in and around Dresden.

The university management is in close contact with the Saxon Music Council, the VdM Saxony and many other institutions that care about young musicians.
