KV Prof. Tobias Glöckler
Kontrabass
Tobias Glöckler is associate principal double bass of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and prize-winner of the International ISB Double Bass Competition (U.S.). With the Dresden Philharmonic and other orchestras he performed in the major concert halls of Europe, in the U.S., Middle and South America, Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan.
He has been teaching double bass at the Dresden University of Music for more than 15 years. He has also held numerous master classes in Germany and abroad (Berlin, London, New York, Prague, Houston, Indianapolis, Sao Paulo). He is also regularly appointed as a juror to renowned international competitions in the USA, Brazil, Italy and Germany.
He studied with Konrad Siebach at the Leipzig Musikhochschule and perfected his skills with Ulrich Lau (Stuttgart) and Jeff Bradetich (Chicago). He also received valuable artistic inspiration in master classes with Joseph Niederhammer (Vienna), David Walter (New York) and Thomas Martin (London). He started his career as principal bassist of the International Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. As a double bass soloist, he has played with various orchestras (including the Dresden Philharmonic, Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt, Mecklenburg Baroque Orchestra) and has been a guest at various music festivals in Germany, Great Britain, Brazil and the USA.
Tobias Glöckler is a founding member and solo bassist of the ensemble frauenkirche dresden. With the Dresden String Quintet he devotes himself intensively to the chamber music repertoire. His services to the historical "Viennese double bass tuning" were honoured with the "Special Award for Historical Performance Practice" of the International Society of Bassists. He has successfully edited URTEXT editions for the renowned music publishers Henle, Breitkopf & Härtel and Hofmeister (German Music Edition Prize). He is a member of the Advisory Board of the International Society of Bassists.
As part of his teaching activities at the Dresden University of Music, he also teaches methodology and chamber music and is head of the double bass department at the Saxon State Gymnasium for Music. Moreover he is mentor at the Kurt Masur Academy of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2024 he was appointed honorary professor at the Dresden University of Music.
