Deutschlandstipendium
In previous funding periods, up to 14 students have been supported through the national Deutschlandstipendium scholarship programm. The Dresden University of Music Carl Maria von Weber remains in close contact with its sponsors and currently anticipates awarding up to twelve Deutschlandstipendium scholarships for the 2027/28 funding period.
The scholarship supports talented students of all nationalities who demonstrate outstanding academic, artistic, or professional achievement, or whose performance indicates exceptional future potential. In addition to outstanding musical and academic accomplishments, selection criteria (see also the Guidelines for the Award of Scholarships at Dresden University of Music) include social and civic engagement. Consideration is also given to applicants who have overcome significant personal challenges arising from their family background, cultural background, or other exceptional life circumstances.
How does the Deutschlandstipendium work?
The advertised Deutschlandstipendium scholarships will be awarded from March 2027 for a period of 12 months. Each scholarship provides funding of €300 per month and is financed jointly, on a 1:1 basis, by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and private sponsors.
Private sponsors include, among others, the Dresdner Stiftung Kunst & Kultur of Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden, the Hans Thomann Foundation, and additional sponsors acquired through the Friends Association of Dresden University of Music.
Who can apply?
- Bachelor Students
- Music Education (Lehramt) students
- Master's students
- Meisterklasse students
- Students pursuing a second degree
- Students receiving BAföG support
Particular emphasis is placed on:
- Exceptional talent and academic/artistic achievement
- Outstanding social and civic engagement
- Special personal circumstances
Additional eligibility requirements
- Enrolment at Dresden University of Music
- At least three semesters of study remaining (including the semester in which the application is submitted)
Not eligible for funding
- Students receiving another merit-based scholarship exceeding €30 per month
- Students temporarily enrolled at Dresden University of Music through an exchange programme (e.g. ERASMUS+)

Supporting talented young musicians, enriching Dresden as a city of music, investing in the cultural future, or giving back some of the support you once received yourself - there are many good reasons to sponsor a Deutschlandstipendium (Germany Scholarship).
In partnership with private sponsors, HfM Dresden supports students through the *Deutschlandstipendium* with €300 per month. The unique feature of this program is that private sponsors contribute €150, while the federal government provides the other half.
