Lied- and Concert Class of the Dresden College of Music

The Lied and Concert Class is an integral part of the vocal training of singers and song pianists and has a long and successful tradition in the history of the Dresden University of Music.

Voice Training

The aim of the lessons is to impart the most comprehensive stylistic knowledge and musically differentiated inspiration possible in the field of Lied and oratorio. The primary focus is on fostering the desire for creativity. Particular emphasis is placed on the vocal/piano duo partnership in Lied interpretation, chamber music performance in various ensembles, and the practical performance-oriented interpretation of oratorio parts.

Lied Accompaniment

The focus of this two-year program is working in fixed duo formations. The ensemble partnership promotes the communication of the musical characteristics and special pianistic challenges of song accompaniment as a chamber music art form. In-depth text work supports the development of artistically independent interpretations based on emotional identification and structural musical implementation.

Artistic practice

Numerous concerts in the city and surrounding area complement the instruction and provide a foundation for artistic practice. Lied recitals in the "Lied-Gut" and "Lied in Dresden" series, chamber concerts, oratorio performances, and concert projects in prominent churches, such as the Dresden Kreuzkirche, as well as university concerts at the Saxon State Opera, provide students with a platform for presenting a wide variety of musical programs. The Lied and Concert Class maintains close partnerships with the Dresden Chamber Choir, the Richard Wagner Sites in Graupa, and the Weber Museum. It maintains regular national musical exchanges with the Lied class at the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre.
