Doctorate
The Dresden University of Music offers the possibility of a doctorate in the disciplines of historical and systematic musicology, music theory and music pedagogy. The range of topics covered is broad. Here you will find an overview of current and completed doctoral projects.
Admission Requirements
The prerequisite is a university degree in one of the doctoral subjects, either a diploma, master's, or Magister degree, or a state examination for teaching music, with a grade of at least "good" overall.
Holders of a bachelor's degree or a non-academic master's degree may also be admitted under certain conditions, as may graduates of other academic university subjects.
Furthermore, a professor in the fields of musicology, music theory, or music education must agree to supervise the dissertation. The supervisor must hold a habilitation or demonstrate equivalent qualifications.
Admission is granted by the doctoral committee. You can send your inquiries at any time to: promotionskommission@mailbox.hfmdd.de
