Jazz/Rock/Pop Studies

The Jazz/Rock/Pop department is a close-knit team where members know and support one another, growing together across different instruments, year groups, and styles.

Our goal is to foster the development of an artistic personality that realizes its individual potential and is equipped to meet the diverse demands of the contemporary music industry. This is grounded in a comprehensive musical education that encourages creativity and independence while providing space for the development of original artistic ideas.

This diversity is reflected in our ensembles: Whether big band, thematic ensembles, jazz choir, or improvisation groups, students from all instrumental backgrounds perform, arrange, and improvise together from the very start. In this way, they gain early stage experience that is vital for their future professional careers.

We maintain an open approach to style: From Jazz, Rock, Pop, Latin, and Funk to free improvisation, we provide an environment where students can develop their own unique artistic voice.

After the second year of study, students may opt to take some of their lessons with an instructor specializing in a different instrument. This allows the course of study to be tailored even more closely to individual interests and artistic development.

hfmdd jazz orchestra Teaching of Stage Practice

The hfmdd jazz orchestra is in a certain sense the symphony orchestra of the Jazz/Rock/Pop programme. In addition to conveying enthusiasm for orchestral playing, the primary task is to prepare for the requirements of the profession in musical, stylistic and psychological terms.
