Application & Requirements Master New Music Bern-Dresden-Salzburg

Entrance Examination

It is required to have an initial job-qualifying certificate (bachelor, diploma, magister or state examination) with an instrumental or vocal focus. Additionaly, musical aptitude is tested according to the entrance examination regulations of the Music University Carl Maria von Weber Dresden.


Language requirements:

For enrolment: language certificate at least level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

  • Certificate of the Goethe-Institute B1 or
  • European Certificate B1 or
  • UniCert I or
  • a comparable language certificate

The study programme can be taken up for a limited period of time for one semester if the required language certificate is not available until matriculation. The first semester must be used for learning the German language. The college offers its own language courses for a fee. In order to be able to continue the studies, language skills must be demonstrated at the required level at the end of the first semester.

Main Artistic Subject:

The entrance examination consists of an artistic presentation with a duration of 20-25 minutes, including three pieces of New Music of distinc style. The examination will take place at the institution, within which the applicant wants to spend his first year of stuty (home institution).

As part of the examination, the applicant will be interviewed about the planned course of study. A successful examination at the home institution entitles for continuation of study in the second year of study.

The international Master in New Music of the Universities of Bern, Dresden and Salzburg is a consecutive Master with a special artistic profile.

- Expansion of existing instrumental/vocal qualifications of an initial musical course of study, into the area of New Music
- Aquisition of extensive knowledge and skills with regards to repertoire and playing techniques
- Deepening of understanding New Music
