Entrance Examination

Admission Requirement:
Bachelor of Music or Diploma

 

 

Language requirements:

For enrolment: language certificate at least level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

  • Certificate of the Goethe-Institute B1 or
  • European Certificate B1 or
  • UniCert I or
  • a comparable language certificate

The study programme can be taken up for a limited period of time for one semester if the required language certificate is not available until matriculation. The first semester must be used for learning the German language. The college offers its own language courses for a fee. In order to be able to continue the studies, language skills must be demonstrated at the required level at the end of the first semester.

Entrance Examination

  • Performance of three pieces of your own choice, with your own ensemble or duo partner (at least one original composition)
  • Submitting a list of 30 standards to the commission, which you know by heart

Main Instrument

The training in the main subjects’ bass guitar and double bass is characterized by a comprehensive stylistic spectrum. It ranges from traditional jazz to bebop to avant-garde jazz, from traditional rock jazz to fusion jazz, from blues to reggae and Afro-Cuban, from soul to funk, from classical rock to nu metal. Bass guitar and double bass are compulsory subjects. You can choose between weekly lessons of 45/45 min; 60/30 min and 30/60 min bass guitar/double bass. In addition, there is the possibility to complete an education in the subject’s methodology and teaching practice.

Language Requirements

For application: Proof of German language skills at least at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) (e.g. Goethe Certificate Start Deutsch 2/telc Deutsch A2, UniCert Basis)

For enrolment: Proof of German language skills according to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The following language certificates are accepted:

  • TestDaF Level 3 (Test German as a Foreign Language, level 3) or
  • DSH-1 (German language examination for university entrance, level 1) or
  • European Certificate B2 or
  • UniCert II or
  • a comparable language certificate

Examination:

- Working on a prepared ensemble piece (e.g. canon, rythmic piece, ca 15-20 minutes) with a group
- Main instrument performance (one piece, 5-10 minutes)
- Practical implementation of a specified ensemble situation
- An interview of circa 10 to 15 minutes regarding the motivation for studying music pedagogy and pedagogical topics

 

Course of Study

The Masters in Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy is a one-year consecutive course of studies. It is directed at students who can demonstrate an initial qualified university diploma with ca. 30 ECTS points in Instrumental/Vocal Pedagogy. It serves as the extension and intensification of the qualifications earned in the first study section.

- One-year consecutive course of studies
- To broaden and deepen the qualifications acquired in the first phase of studies
- Choice of two profiles:
- Music Communication or
- School Music
- The course of study is completed by as Master‘s thesis
