Guest Lecture
Towards a Harmonic Theory of the Extra-Complex Sonority

First, I will discuss how fundamental acoustic categories will factor into sound production.
Second, this will lead to the topic of multidimensionality in sound production.
Third, I will discuss desynchronization of elements involved in sound production, that will be combined with a discussion of nonlinear phenomena.
Fourth, I will discuss extra-complex sonorities (musical sonorities that exceed the properties of a complex harmonic tone; such as the production of two tones produced by one pair of vocal folds, or a violin tone featuring equal amounts of pitch and noise, etc.), and initial attempts to use the tools of acoustics and perception to investigate the relative consonance and dissonance of multiphonic or nonharmonic ('extra-complex') sonorities, similar to how we perceive harmonic movement within a Bach chorale.
